Oxmarket are delighted to welcome back Daniel Freaker with a 2 week exhibition in the Wilson gallery. Freaker’s exhibition of paintings called ‘Forever’ explores moments of transition, reflection and transformation. Within the paintings, scenes emerge that suggest rites of passage, personal journeys and emotional states that resist easy definition. There is a tension between the familiar and the unknown, between what is remembered and what is imagined, creating works that feel suspended beyond a specific time or place.

Built through layers of paint, each image develops through a process of negotiation between intention and accident. Structure is continually challenged by gesture, allowing forms, light and atmosphere to evolve organically. The paintings invite prolonged looking, revealing shifting relationships and unexpected moments of clarity.

Having studied graphic design before completing postgraduate studies at the Slade and taught art at Chichester College for many years, Freaker has developed a practice grounded in both observation and intuition. Throughout the exhibition, intensity of colour carries much of the emotional weight. Vivid, luminous and immersive, it moves beyond description, becoming something almost tangible; colour that can be felt as much as seen.

Freaker has exhibited internationally, is represented by galleries in the UK and internationally, and his work is held in private collections. Extensive travel, including India and Cuba, has influenced the palette and dynamism of his work. He lives and works in Portsmouth.
